International Summer School of Photography 2010
Ludza, Latvia, 31 July – 8 August 2010


Professional photographers, photography and arts students, artists using photography and interested amateurs are invited to apply to take part in the International Summer School of Photography (ISSP) 2010 that will take place in Ludza, Latvia on 31 July–8 August 2010. The deadline for Applications is 10 May 2010.

The aim of ISSP is to offer high-quality alternative education to young photographers and to encourage cross-border networking and exchange of ideas in the art of photography. Having taken place annually since 2006, the School has already established itself among the most important non-commercial photography education institutions in Eastern and Central Europe and has gathered a thriving community of young photographers in Latvia and internationally - ISSP students and teachers come from over 20 countries.

ISSP 2010 will offer six workshops by outstanding internationally renowned photographers:

1) Veronique Bourgoin (France), True or False?
2) Ville Lenkkeri (Finland/Sweden), New Harmony - Man-Altered Landscape
3) Peter Bialobrzeski (Germany), A Sense of Place
4) Roger Ballen (South Africa), Capturing Your Shadow in Black and White
5) Andrei Polikanov (Russia), Photojournalism and Print Media
6) George Georgiou (UK), Documentary Practice and Narrative: The Long Term Project

60 participants (10 per workshop) will be selected based on their Application forms.

The participation fee for ISSP 2010 is 400 EUR, which includes accomodation, full board and local transport during the school.

However, as a non-profit entity, ISSP wishes to ensure the advancement of students based on their talent and motivation, independent of their financial well-being. Therefore, a large number of participants (up to 70%) with excellent background and motivation but limited financial means shall be admitted on a Subsidized participation fee.

There is no limitation to country of origin of the participants - foreign applicants are welcome to apply.

The working language of ISSP is English.

Interested individuals are invited to submit on-line applications till 10 May, 2009. The results of the participants’ selection process will be announced by end of May.
